Revco FAQ: Performance & Specifications
1. What are the AABB, ANRC, FDA criteria that apply to your blood bank, plasma, and red cell freezers?
Revco blood bank, plasma, and red cell refrigerators and freezers are constructed around the AABB Technical Manual Guidelines that deal with the storage and shipment of blood and components, such as temperature monitoring and alarm testing. We also comply with the FDA Quality System Regulation 21CFR820. Our FDA registration number is 1036832. - Updated: January 14, 2000
2. When should I consider purchasing a CO2 or LN2 backup system?
Anytime critical
samples are being stored between -40°C and -150°C, a backup system
should be considered. The typical
temperature range for CO2 is -40°C to -75°C, while liquid nitrogen
is used as a back-up for temperature lower than -75°C. In the event
of a power outage, system failure, or other unforseen situation, a backup
system will provide the necessary means to maintain the ultra-low temperatures
within the freezer. (This system does require a customer supplied CO2 supply.)
The backup system operates off a continuously recharged battery. Typical
battery life, once the system is activated, is between 50-70 hours at -70°C.

3. What is Legaci?
The Legaci refrigeration system is designed specifically for use in low temerature applications and dramatically improves freezer reliability. A collaborative effort with industry leaders such as Copeland and Dupont, the two-compressor cascade system uses carefully matched components to ensure balanced efficient operation, to minimize compressor loading, and to keep the compressor cool for durability. For example, the Legaci custom compressor's oversized bearings reduce bearing loads (vs conventional bearings) and enhances lubricant delivery (and effectiveness over time). The Legaci also features electric motors sized for use in ultra-low temperature systems, so excessive energy consumption, waste heat, and high operating current aren't an issue with the Legaci system. - Updated: January 14, 2000
4. What is so special about the IntrLogic system for ultra low freezers?
The IntrLogic microprocessor controller is the industry's most comprehensive management system for temperature control, electrical power, alarm and monitoring functions on the ULT. The IntrLogic system surveys ambient conditions and critical points in the system several times every second for optimum temperature control with minimal energy consumption. - Updated: December 17, 1999
5. Can I run any equipment on the inside of my freezer?
Yes, if heat output is not excessive (ie. ~100W in a -80°C product). For example any lights, motors, or mechanical actions may load the refrigeration system beyond it's capability to maintain the rated temperature. Revco Chromatography refrigerators are designed with reserve capacity for equipment. Individual units may vary depending on specific cabinet features, product loading and operating conditions. Please call Revco Technical Support for the reserve capacity specific to your unit. - Updated: January 14, 2000
6. In what room temperature range will the ULT freezer work?
The equipment is designed for use in a room temperature range of 59°F-90°F, 15°C-32°C. Use outside this range can reduce freezer performance, increase power consumption, and may reduce the freezer life. It is also important to allow a minimum of six (6) inches clearance at all sides, front to back and side to side as well as at the top, for proper ventilation. - Updated: December 17, 1999 7. Are your products UL listed? In most cases our models are UL listed, and all of our products are built to UL standards. For information on specific models, please contact us at 800-252-7100. - Updated: December 17, 1999
8. Do you offer Certificates of Calibration?
A Certificate
of Calibration provides the actual unit display and center air temperature
readings along with ambient temperature at test and our Revco Technologies
Instrument Serial Number. A request for Certificate of Calibration at time
of order must be entered as a line item on the PO. It is Part No. 6916-2.
If you need a Certificate after unit has been shipped, order Part No. 6916-7
from the Revco Technologies Parts Department at 800-252-7100. In both cases,
you will need to specify the model number and include a serial number if
possible. There is a nominal fee for both. *Note:
We cannot provide a Certificate of Calibration for units beyond 1 year of
the manufactured date, nor do we provide certificates for explosion proof
or flammable storage units. - Updated: April 6, 2001
9. On my CO2 incubator, which is better, an infrared or a thermal sensor? Why?
Both systems use a sensor assembly positioned above the interior chamber. A small blower moves interior air gently across the sensor to compare actual CO2% against setpoint. Infrared is best if you will be changing the temperature regularly; it is less sensitive to humidity. The thermal sensor is good for constant temperature settings. This patented humidity-compensated sensor prevents drift due to temperature and humidity changes when the door is opened. - Updated: January 14, 2000
10. Can I use the inventory racks from my old brand of freezer in my new Revco unit?
Although the space utilization may not be optimal as provided with Revco Technologies racks, old racks may be suitable. Measure the old racks and compare the size with the new freezer's interior dimensions found in the spec sheet or product literature. Also note that some shelves are adjustable. - Updated: April 6, 2001
11. Where can I find the weight and dimensions for product with and without ship information?
The product literature and information provided in the Catalog On Line section of this Web site provide interior and exterior dimensions, as well as weight for UNCRATED, domestic shipments. This information can be easily converted for international shipments by using the following conversions: lbs. x .4536 = kg; in. x 2.54 = cm. Due to periodic changes in packaging, please contact our Customer Service Department for the most recent CRATED weights and dimensions for domestic and international shipments. - Updated: January 14, 2000
12. How long can I expect the unit to last?
Typical design
life ranges from ten to twenty (10-20) years, depending on operating conditions
(excessively warm ambient
temperatures, clogged condensers, etc.), preventive maintenance and application
among a number of other variables. Revco has been manufacturing units since
1938. - Updated: January 14, 2000
13. How can I get a spec sheet for your product?
Product specifications are available in our printed literature and also at our Catalog On Line page of this Web site. If you are unable to find what you need, please call your authorized Revco Technologies sales representative or dealer organization. - Updated: April 6, 2001
14. Do the two compressors on my -86°C ultra low work together, or is one a backup?
The compressors work together in a two stage system on Revco -86°C chest and upright freezers and can not operate independently. - Updated: January 14, 2000
15. What will my plug look like?
Line Cord Plug Reference Charts are available in the product literature as well as in the Catalog On Line section of this Web site. - Updated: January 14, 2000
16. What is the voltage of my unit, and what are its electrical requirements?
Product specifications
and electrical requirements are listed on the product catalog and on the
appropriate Catalog On Line page of this Web site. - Updated: January 14,
2000
